Industry insider Tom Henderson has revealed some spicy information about the next God of War game. Instead of carrying the story forward, it will explore the origin story of Kratos and will be set in Greece.

God of War: Ragnarök, for all intents and purposes, rounded off the 2018 God of War's story pretty well. It ended the Norse mythology segment pretty well, although one might argue there are still a few loose ends that need to be addressed. Nevertheless, Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has some new information about the next God of War game.

Contrary to earlier rumours which said the next God of War game would be based in Egypt, Tom says it will return to Greece. Apparently, it will revolve around a 'younger' version of Kratos, which means we'll get a glimpse at what the God of War was up to before the original game. A prequel of sorts. While the prospect of revisiting Sparta is an attractive one, it goes against the established lore. Kratos wasn't much of a god before his encounter with Ares, so the 'God' part in God of War doesn't add up.

Or, it could be entirely possible Sony is remastering the first three games and Tom's source was likely referencing to that. That said, a prequel would make more sense because canonically, Kratos isn't exactly getting any younger. An Atreus-centered God of War game might work had he not been so annoying. Plus, pivoting away from one of the most iconic game protagonists is certain to cause a rift among hardcore fans.
