Sony's latest State of Play showcased a variety of game trailers and even included a surprise shadow drop. If you're into large-scale battles and roguelite mechanics, this one could be worth checking out.

The Warriors series, famous for its large-scale battles, received its latest installment, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, in January 2025. At the PlayStation State of Play on February 12, several games were revealed. Among them was Warriors: Abyss, which launched as a surprise shadow drop for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

In Warriors: Abyss, you play as a hero summoned to hell by the King of the Underworld to defeat the diabolical Gouma. Battling hordes of infernal enemies, you collect Karma Embers – an in-game currency used to recruit the souls of fallen heroes and assemble a powerful team. With over 100 heroes to choose from, the game offers plenty of strategic depth.

The title stays true to the series' signature 1 vs. 1,000 battles but introduces roguelite mechanics for the first time. Each run features randomly generated enemy formations and power-ups, with procedurally generated levels ensuring a fresh experience every time. While most progress is lost upon defeat, certain upgrades, unlocked heroes and collected Karma Embers carry over.

Starting at $25 on Steam

Currently Warriors: Abyss holds 74 Steam reviews, with 75% of players giving it a positive rating. The game is available on Steam for $24.99. Alternatively, the Hack'n'Dash Edition is priced at $39.99 and the Hack'n'Dash Ultimate Edition at $79.99. These special editions offer additional playable characters, skins and Karma Embers.
