On February 5, 2025, indie studio HideWorks surprised everyone with the sudden announcement of Liminal Point, a new survival horror game that embraces classic genre elements while taking a different approach to camera perspective. Instead of the typical third-person or first-person view, it uses an isometric top-down perspective, more common in classic RPGs like Fallout 1 & 2 or Baldur’s Gate. While unusual for the genre, this fresh take could be a welcome change for horror fans. The announcement trailer offers a first glimpse:
Liminal Point puts players in the role of Lyra, who returns to an island after years to face traumatic memories and grotesque nightmare creatures. The gameplay follows classic survival mechanics – resources are scarce and smart inventory management is crucial. Players must explore their surroundings, uncover clues about Lyra’s past and stay vigilant against lurking threats. While Lyra can fight, ammunition and healing items are limited, making a tactical approach essential.
Promising development studio
Liminal Point is being developed by HideWorks, a young but promising studio. Their previous horror game, The Devil is in the Details, released in September 2024, has been well received on Steam. At the time of research, it had only 43 reviews, but all were positive. This strong debut suggests Liminal Point has a good chance of resonating with players as well.
Release planned for 2026
Since Liminal Point was just announced, its release is still a long way off. There’s no official date yet, but the developers have confirmed plans for a 2026 launch.
