Even with the Switch 2 on the horizon, Nintendo is set to release at least three first-party titles for the current Switch – and it looks like a fourth major game could join them in 2025. Known for reliable Nintendo leaks, NateTheHate first mentioned in a December 2024 YouTube video that a popular 3DS game would be coming to the Switch this year. Now, the leaker has reaffirmed this claim on X, revealing that the game in question is Kirby: Planet Robobot.
As expected from a Kirby game, Planet Robobot is a classic 3D platformer. However, it adds a unique twist by allowing players to fight in a mech suit, which can scan enemies and acquire special abilities. With over 25 copy abilities and dynamic levels featuring depth effects, the game blended traditional Kirby gameplay with fresh mechanics. Upon release, it received an 81 on Metacritic and a user score of 8.7.
If Planet Robobot does make its way to the Switch, it’s great news for Nintendo fans. Whether it ends up as a simple HD port or a full remaster remains unclear, but one key benefit is certain – the game will finally be available digitally again. Since the 3DS eShop closed, Planet Robobot has only been accessible as a physical copy.
This information has yet to be officially confirmed and it’s unclear where NateTheHate sourced it. However, Nintendo has previously brought several Wii and 3DS games to the Switch, including Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, making a Kirby: Planet Robobot port seem quite plausible. The upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2 could provide clarity.
