This free-to-play autobattler recently received an HD upgrade, which helped it gain enough attention to reach the top of SteamDB's 'Popular Releases' category.

Alpha League HD is a new hero-based autobattler with roguelike elements. Players select a hero – such as a plague doctor, a soul eater or the Monkey King known from Black Myth: Wukong – and customize them with one of twelve fighting styles before stepping into combat. Battles play out like gladiator duels in the arena.

Each match features eight fighters, either AI-controlled or real players. As an autobattler, combat unfolds automatically, but not all at once – battles take place one after another. The outcome largely depends on the chosen fighting style. After each victory, players select one of three perks, which can enhance attacks, improve defense or provide other strategic advantages.

Alpha League was first released on February 23, 2024. Almost a year later, developer Beaveroid Entertainment released an HD version with enhanced visuals, which seemingly pushed the game to the top of SteamDB's "Popular Releases" category. The reception has been strong – on Steam, Alpha League HD has already garnered over 140 reviews with a "Very Positive" rating of 93%. If you enjoy autobattlers, this one could be worth checking out, especially since it's completely free to play.
