Guns of Fury is a military-themed Metroidvania that combines the frantic run-and-gun action of something like Contra with the map exploration and abilities of Super Metroid.
It has a beautiful and crunchy 16-bit aesthetic heavily inspired by the SNK classic Metal Slug, with gorgeous hand-drawn pixel art and tons of charm. In true Metroidvania fashion, it lets you explore an interconnected map to find secrets and acquire new abilities.
According to the Steam page, there are hundreds of unique items and weapons to discover and epic bosses and enemy types to wage war against. You will also get to take control of various mechs, each with its own unique abilities.
The money you gain by wreaking havoc can be used to purchase new equipment from merchants scattered throughout the game world. These will help you access new areas and battle even more powerful foes for greater rewards.
The on-screen action is complemented by a suitably nostalgic and epic musical score by Dominic Ninmark, best known for his work on Gravity Circuit, Blazing Chrome, and Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider.
Besides weapons, you also have melee attacks and throwables like grenades. In true retro fashion, the story is simple. You play as Vincent Fury, a special operative who must save a world-famous scientist from the clutches of an evil industrialist who wants to use the scientist's creation to make a powerful super weapon.
You can check out the game here. Guns of Fury is 14% off as part of an introductory offer until February 27.
