Reikon Games made a strong debut in 2017 with Ruiner. Nearly eight years later, the Polish studio is back with its second project. Metal Eden is set to launch on May 6, putting players in control of HYPER UNIT ASKA, an advanced combat android. Tasked with rescuing the Cores of Moebius’ citizens, they enter a dystopian cyberpunk world and face off against the mecha troops of the Internal Defense Corps. Metal Eden will be available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The first trailer offers a glimpse of the gameplay for those interested.
Metal Eden stands out for its fast-paced, action-packed gameplay. With wall runs, jetpacks and grappling hooks, players can zip through levels at high speed, outmaneuvering enemies with ease. Combat offers a mix of firearms and melee attacks, including unique abilities like the "Core Ripper", which lets ASKA tear the core from enemies for an instant kill and tactical advantage. The "Armored Ramball" allows players to transform into a reinforced sphere and dive straight into combat – a nod to Metroid.
Community reacts positively
The announcement of Metal Eden was met with largely positive reactions from the gaming community. On Reddit, fans praised its impressive visuals and immersive cyberpunk setting. The fast, brutal gameplay draws comparisons to Doom Eternal, while wall-running and acrobatic movement have sparked hopes for a spiritual successor to Titanfall 2. However, some fear the game might struggle to stand out among major releases – a concern reminiscent of Titanfall 2’s situation in 2016. Metal Eden is launching just a week before Doom: The Dark Ages. Still, with Deep Silver as its publisher, the game has strong backing, which could help secure a solid position at release.
