Garmin has released a new stable update for the Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro. The first in over two months, System Software 20.16 contains over 20 changes, including the addition of CIQ System 8. Plenty of bug fixes can be found too, with five focused on resolving widget and app crashes.

Garmin has begun rolling out new stable updates for the Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro (curr. $549.99 on Amazon), which have also reached the Enduro 2 and Tactix 7, among other compatible smartwatches. Incidentally, the release of System Software 20.16 should mark the end of v20.xx beta testing, which began with Beta Version 20.10 in early January.

System Software 20.16 is the first new stable update for the Fenix 7 series and its peers since December when Garmin delivered System Software 19.41. However, System Software 19.34 was the last major stable update for the Fenix 7 series; all subsequent updates were introduced to target specific bugs rather than introduce new features.

As a result, System Software 20.16 contains a bounty of changes, including support for CIQ System 8. The new update also ships with a dozen bug fixes, five of which to resolve crashes. As it stands, Garmin reports that System Software 20.16 should have reached around 20% of eligible smartwatches. The update package can be triggered manually though by navigating to Menu, System, Software Update and then tapping 'Check for Updates' on your Enduro 2, Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro or Tactix 7 smartwatch. For reference, all versions of System Software 20.16 should ship with the same changelog, which is as follows:

  • Added marquee in smart notification widget.
  • Added CIQ System 8 Support.
  • Added connection type information for paired sensors.
