Huawei will be officially presenting the first tri-fold smartphone globally later this month. For reference, the company will showcase Mate XT in Singapore on February 18, five months after the device's debut in China. By contrast, Samsung has not officially confirmed plans to release a tri-fold yet. Instead, it only hinted at the device's existence last month when it presented the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra (curr. $1,299.99 on Amazon).
Based on recent rumours, Samsung had brought forward the release of its first tri-fold from Q1 2026 to as soon as July. Allegedly, this would allow Samsung to present its Mate XT rival alongside not just the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Galaxy Z Fold7, but also the cheaper Galaxy Z Flip FE. According to Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants, this will not be the case.
Reportedly, panel production for Samsung's first tri-fold will begin in July, which would need to occur months earlier to ensure a July product launch. Nonetheless, Young has now brought forward his expectations for a Samsung tri-fold release. Meanwhile, PandaFlashPro asserts that Samsung will begin tri-fold production at the 'end of August'.
Presumably, this applies to the device as a whole rather than its circa 10-inch foldable display. The same source adds that the tri-fold will match other recent Galaxy Z devices with 2,600 nits peak brightness and 25 W wired charging. ProScaler support should be onboard too, as should an overall design that resembles that of the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Availability may mirror that of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition too, albeit only initially before a wider global launch.
