February 13, 2025 3:40 PM GMT update: OnePlus has confirmed that it will not release a foldable phone this year, which means the Open 2 may not be a thing.
Original news:
The Oppo Find N5 will be fully unveiled on February 20, and it's expected to be later rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 in certain regions. Right ahead of the launch event, the company has revealed how thick the foldable phone actually is in closed state. Per the recent teaser, the folding smartphone will measure 8.93 mm when folded.
This is lower than what the Honor Magic V3 measures in the closed state, which is 9.22 mm. Of course, not all the variants of the Find N5 will measure the same. The Twilight Purple color variant will measure 9.35 mm in the folded state, and it's not clear why this specific option is thicker than the Jade White and Satin Black variants.
Speaking of the phone being in the folded state, Oppo recently confirmed that the Find N5 will feature an upgraded hinge. It promises "worry-free" unfolding and folding for up to "ten years." The company calls it a "titanium alloy sky hinge," and it has a "five-spring four-wheel drive," apparently an industry-first.
This hinge is also said to make the crease "imperceptible," through which the inner display of the folding phone will supposedly offer an immersive viewing experience. To be specific, the improved hinge is said to make the crease angle go below 2.5° and the depth stay under 0.15 mm.
Other confirmed details of the soon-to-be OnePlus Open 2 include "full-level waterproof" certification, titanium alloy middle frame, Snapdragon 8 Elite, and Hasselblad cameras. It'll be interesting to see how well this new foldable phone compares against the Galaxy Z Fold 6 (512 GB curr. $1,549.97 on Amazon) when it comes to the price.
