The OnePlus Open is a premium Android foldable smartphone that is now in its second year of going without a successor. Its software is still being maintained, however, most recently with an updated security patch. It also allows the user to increase the personalization of their photos and videos.

OnePlus unveiled its first-gen foldable smartphone in 2023, but has decided against providing the series with new hardware for the 2nd time in 2025.

The Open may have been neglected in terms of hardware upgrades - but it is staying relevant in terms of software support, at least.

OxygenOS 15.0.0.610 for the OnePlus Open does not have the longest changelog in the world, but does at least upgrade the stock app for the premium device's cameras to customizable watermarks. They enable the user to set their own text in place of the typical camera stat read-outs placed alongside a Hasselblad logo along the bottom or side of the photo.

Videos taken with the OnePlus Open can also be overlaid with customizable watermarks. The new firmware update is still based on Android 15, yet has a security patch level boosted to February 2025.

Its roll-out has started in India and Europe and has reportedly also started to reach units located in North America, although the OEM has yet to officially confirm that.

The Open might now be 2 generations behind new flagships such as OnePlus' latest candy-bar 13 in terms of its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor - and now seems to have been abandoned in terms of a new device to pass its name on to.

Nevertheless, it still poses the main alternative to devices such as Google's Pixel Fold or the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 in many regions worldwide, and still commands its starting price of $1,699.99 on Amazon for premium specs such as a bright ~2K LTPO3 Flexi-fluid AMOLED main display, 16GB of RAM and even an IR blaster (and regular discounts to watch out for to boot).

Plus, it now continues to exhibit regular software support (its second-last update having arrived in January 2025), meaning OnePlus foldable fans can keep their current device in use while waiting to see if a new generation will come along one day after all.
