OnePlus Open 2: Second-gen OnePlus foldable will not be released this year

OnePlus debuted the OnePlus Open last year as its inaugural foldable smartphone. The Open was positively received at launch and lauded as one of the best globally available foldables on the market but it now appears that a successor may not be on the cards to launch anytime soon.

As revealed by Kartikey Singh, it seems likely that the OnePlus will not release a OnePlus Open 2 this year. The reason for this is simple: OnePlus tends to rebadge OPPO devices, and the device that would've been rebranded to be the OnePlus Open 2 now looks to have been shelved.

Last year's OnePlus Open (buy on Amazon) was effectively a rebranded OPPO Find N3 for the global market, much in the same way the OnePlus Pad was a rebranded OPPO Pad 2. Reportedly, OPPO has no plans to release new foldables this year, which indicates the OPPO Find N5—the hypothetical successor to last year's Find N3—is now off the cards, for now at least.  Instead, according to leaker Chun Bai, the OPPO Find N5 has been pushed back to a 2025 release date, with it set to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The OnePlus Open 2 can be expected to launch shortly after.

Thankfully, though, several foldable devices are still scheduled to debut globally this year. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are, of course, the biggest names. The second-gen Google Pixel Fold is expected, too, with Xiaomi rumored to be bringing the all-new Mix Flip to the global market as well.
