OnePlus launches global AI offensive with AI Eraser on OnePlus 12, OnePlus Open and the like
Until now, OnePlus has relied on Magic Eraser in Google Photos to offer users the possibility of removing unwanted elements from photos. Today, the smartphone manufacturer has announced its own tool that basically serves the same purpose, but is also designed to handle more complex images.
To this end, OnePlus has developed a proprietary Large Language Model (LLM) that can completely redo parts of photos. For example, entire people from an image can be removed while AI replaces the missing parts. In the sample photos published by OnePlus, the actual removal of elements works well, but users obviously have to be careful because the shadows cast by objects are not removed automatically and therefore require manual intervention.
The way the Magic Eraser works is largely the same as the Google Magic Editor or the comparable Samsung Galaxy AI photo feature. The AI Eraser will be distributed to the first OnePlus smartphones in April, starting with the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R, followed by the OnePlus Open, the OnePlus 11 and the OnePlus Nord CE 4.
The function will be available worldwide and can then be used directly in the OnePlus photo gallery app. The AI Eraser is just the start of a new AI offensive from OnePlus, as the smartphone manufacturer asserts that further AI-based features will be released over the course of the year. While it is still unclear which features are planned, the company is likely to launch the ability to automatically summarize articles and calls in other regions, as these features are currently only available in China.
