In recent years, Honor has led the way when it comes to making foldables ever thinner. For example, the Magic V2 arrived a fortnight before the Galaxy Z Fold5 with what ended up being a 26% thinner design when folded. While a narrower gap exists between the Magic V3 and Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,099.99 - renewed on Amazon), the former is still about 24% thinner than the latter.
This year, the Magic V series has a new challenger in the form of the Find N5, which is the first foldable to dip below 9 mm thick when closed. Oppo has compromised in various areas to hit an 8.9 mm thick housing though, such as adopting the slower 7-core version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Additionally, the Find N5 arguably contains a weaker overall camera set than the Find N2, thanks to downgrades across the board from the Find N3.
As we discussed earlier this month, Honor is not expected to make any such camera hardware compromises with the Magic V4. Instead, the next Magic V may go the other way by adopting a 200 MP telephoto camera. According to Digital Chat Station, the Magic V4 could well feature the full-fat version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite with 8 CPU cores too. That does not necessarily mean that Honor's next foldable will outperform the Find N5 in all scenarios, particularly given how the Magic V3 failed to get the most out of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
