Rumours about Apple's first foldable are taking shape. Allegedly due next autumn, the so-called iPhone Fold is expected to land with a 5.5-inch cover display akin to the iPhone 13 mini of a few years ago. However, it is rumoured to expand to 7.8-inches when unfolded, which would put it between the diagonals of the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (curr. $1,099.99 - refurbished on Amazon).
According to Digital Chat Station, the foldable display will conform to almost a 4:3 aspect ratio, compared to the 5:4 or 1:1 ratios of its peers. Writing on Weibo, the leaker adds that the decision to pursue a 4:3 aspect ratio is to ensure compatibility with software optimised for the iPad. For context, every iPad apart from the iPad mini sports a 4:3 aspect ratio, including the latest 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro.
There is no suggestion that the iPhone Fold will run iPadOS, though. Currently, Apple is estimated to be considering a starting price of between $2,000 and $2,500 for the device in the US. To justify the comparatively high price, the company is said to have worked with Samsung Display to create a near-invisible display crease with a titanium alloy case design.
