Photos recently published by X account @StellaFudge (embedded below) purportedly show a prototype of the Apple Watch Series 10 with an unusual sensor arrangement. Compared to the regular Apple Watch Series 10, the eight LEDs in the center, which are used for the heart rate and SpO2 sensor, are significantly smaller.
Around these LEDs, you can see a partially transparent ring that also appears to house LEDs itself. The purpose of this additional sensor is unknown; it could be an early prototype of Apple's blood glucose or blood pressure measurement, which the company has been working on for years. However, both sensors are said to be nowhere near market-ready and so will not available on the Apple Watch Series 11.
Apple is also trailing behind its competitors in other areas. For example, the Apple Watch Series 10 lacks an EDA sensor, which continuously measures electrodermal activity to determine the user's stress levels throughout the day, or a sensor for measuring body fat and muscle percentage, such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7.
Little concrete information about the next-generation Apple Watch is known so far, as rumors suggest that most of the major innovations won't be ready when the smartwatch is expected to be officially unveiled in September. For example, Apple is reportedly planning a smartwatch with an integrated camera that will be able to answer questions about the user's surroundings in conjunction with Apple Intelligence, but this feature is not expected until 2027.
