Companies do not tend to release products on April 1 for obvious reasons. Nonetheless, Garmin has decided to introduce a successor to the Vivoactive 5 (curr. $214 on Amazon), which arrived just over 18 months ago.
According to Garmin, the Vivoactive 6 features a brighter AMOLED display than its predecessor. However, it has not shared specifics in this regard. Instead, it has only confirmed that the 1.2-inch display continues to output at 390 x 390 pixels with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and Always On Display functionality.
Likewise, the Vivoactive 6 matches its predecessor with up to 11 days of battery life. Garmin has included twice as much built-in storage this time around though, as well as support for BeiDou and QZSS location services. On top of that, the Vivoactive 6 has a built-in gyroscope that the Vivoactive 5 lacks. Garmin has included Red Shift, additional activity profiles and Daily Suggested Workouts too, plus a new Smart Wake Alarm that should 'gently' wake you at the 'optimal time' based on sleep data.
For some reason, the Vivoactive 6 misses out on passcode support, which Garmin introduced to various smartwatches earlier this year including the Vivoactive 5. Please note that the new Vivoactive only accepts 20 mm watch bands, too. Also, stock watch bands are designed to fit wrists that measure between 125 mm and 190 mm in circumference. The Vivoactive 6 will be available to order from April 4 for $299.99 in a choice of four colours. Please see Garmin's product comparison page for a full list of differences between the Vivoactive 5 and Vivoactive 6.
