It seems that Garmin is preparing to refresh one of its more popular smartwatch series. To recap, the company updated its Enduro and Fenix ranges last year with the Enduro 3, Fenix E and Fenix 8. More recently, there were suggestions that Garmin may have started the ball rolling towards launching the Forerunner 975.
To that end, fresh claims have been made online that the Forerunner 975 will be made be available later this year. In the meantime, evidence has emerged that a new Vivoactive smartwatch is already in an advanced stage of development. For reference, the Vivoactive 5 (curr. $179.95 - refurbished on Amazon) has been on sale for over eighteen months at this point. Available exclusively with a 42 mm case size, the device combines a bright circular AMOLED display with up to 11 days of battery life and various features found across Garmin's more expensive smartwatches.
If a new leak proves accurate, then Garmin will deliver a successor in four colour options with matching silicone bands. While the Vivoactive 6 is said to come with an accelerometer, compass and gyroscope, it will not be launching with altimeter or electrocardiogram (ECG) support. Instead, it will offer functionality like Ground Contact Time, Vertical Oscillation, Pace Pro, Running Power and VO2 Max.
As a result, it would appear that Garmin has paired the Vivoactive 6 with its Elevate V5 hear rate sensor array. Also, it looks like Garmin has modified its top hardware button to resemble more of a digital crown. Presumably for ergonomic purposes, the button itself does not appear to have gained any additional functionality. Reportedly, the Vivoactive 6 will launch next month. A specific release date has not emerged yet, though.
