Garmin has begun working on a new milestone update for the Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro. Already available to try on Garmin's Beta Program, v21.04 is the start of what will eventually form a fresh stable update with improvements, new features and bug fixes galore by the looks of things.

Garmin has kicked off the next major software version for the Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro and other associated smartwatches like the Enduro 2 (curr. $671 on Amazon). For context, the company released System Software 20.22 to the same smartwatches earlier this month before announcing its broader Q1 2025 update.

Now Garmin has moved onto v21 software, which is already available to try on its Beta Program. Please note that the new update will not arrive automatically on a Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro, Epix 2, Epix 2 Pro, Enduro 2, Quatix 7 or Marq 2 even if it is enrolled in the company's Beta Program. Instead, you must trigger its download manually by heading through Menu, System and Software Update on your smartwatch before selecting 'Check for Updates'.

According to Garmin, Beta Version 21.04 makes five changes from System Software 20.22. However, one of these bundles 'various' bug fixes and improvements about which Garmin does not provide any further details. Beta Version 21.04 addresses two other outstanding bugs too, including one that could cause a crash in the Garmin Coach widget. The full list of changes associated with Beta Version 21.04 is as follows:

  • Added unlock icons to sensor details page.
  • Fixed possible crash in the Garmin Coach widget.
  • Fixed a translation issue on the sleep watch face.
  • Updated Running Track Database.
  • Various bug fixes and improvements.
