Atari has unveiled the 2600 My Play Watch, which is now available to pre-order in the US. As its name suggests, the wearable is based on the Atari 2600 home video game console released in 1977. It offers traditional features like health metric tracking and also allows users to play arcade games on their wrists.
The Atari 2600 My Play Watch has a 2.02-inch TFT color touchscreen and runs on the MyPlayWatch OS. The display is surrounded by a metal bezel, with a red rotating crown and a button designed to look like those on an Atari 2600 controller. Another nod to the console is through the sound effects used for alarms and timers. You can customize the watch with a range of graphics and three interchangeable bands with Atari 2600-inspired designs.
It is billed as a Selective Tech watch, indicating a simpler feature set “without the data tracking and distractions”. In other words, there is no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity, so you cannot get notifications from your smartphone, and there will be no updates for the wearable. Users can monitor their heart rate, step count, and active calorie burn daily on the watch. Plus, there are four games offered on the device: Centipede, Missile Command, Pon and Super Breakout. The watch is IP68 dust and water-resistant and recharges wirelessly.
You can now pre-order the Atari 2600 My Play Watch in the US for $79.99. Each order includes the watch and three bands, which will be shipped to customers by June 10th. Unfortunately, Atari does not offer international shipping for this product. It is unclear whether or when this product could become available to customers in other markets.
