The Core Time 2 is the more premium PebbleOS smartwatch announced today by Core Devices, the new company founded by Eric Migicovsky. The other is the Core 2 Duo. Based on the Pebble Time 2, the Core Time 2 can be termed a spiritual successor to the 2016 smartwatch.
Sporting a 1.5-inch (200 x 228) 64-color e-paper display, the Core Time 2 has a flat glass lens to reduce glare unlike the curved glass of the Pebble Time series. The watch will support the thousands of apps and watchfaces designed for PebbleOS, however, they will have a border due to the Core Time 2 having a larger display. This should be corrected once developers update their apps and watchfaces.
The display, which is housed inside a metal frame, supports touch input unlike that of the Core 2 Duo. According to the press release, the addition of touch input will allow for watch complications which can be tapped to open the corresponding app like on smartwatches such as the Apple Watch Series 10 (curr. available on Amazon for $329).
There are also four (metal) buttons for operating the watch and 22mm straps like the Core 2 Duo. When it launches, it will be water resistant. The spec sheet says the goal is for the smartwatch to have an IPX8 rating.
The Core Time 2 will have a heart rate monitor, sleep tracking, and a pedometer. It will also have a microphone, speaker, and a linear resonance actuator. Surprisingly, there's no mention of a barometer and a compass in its spec sheet, two features the Core 2 Duo has. The Core Time 2 will also have a battery life of up to 30 days and charge using a standard Pebble charger.
Priced at $225, the Core Time 2 will be available in black and white color options with the possibility of a third. There will be a companion app for both Android and iOS. The Core Time 2 will be exclusive to the rePebble store and will be produced in limited quantities. The timeline for shipping is December 2025.
