Apple is said to be working on multiple foldable devices, one with a Galaxy Z Fold like form factor and the other being a larger hybrid device. While Apple has not shared any release timelines for either of the devices, speculation suggests that the iPhone Fold will arrive sometime next year while the larger foldable could be revealed in 2027 or 2028. Now, another industry analyst has backed these claims.
The information comes from investment firm GF Securities' lead analyst Jeff Pu (via MacRumors) who claims that the 18.8-inch foldable device will not enter mass production in Q4 2026 for a 2027 release as was initially expected. Therefore, it will be postponed to 2028, which is in line with what Bloomberg's Mark Gurman believes. Pu did mention that the iPhone Fold, on the other hand, is showing “intact progress” in the supply chain which reaffirms the H2 2026 launch window.
As mentioned earlier, Apple has not shared any information on these foldable devices, but a lot of leaks and rumors have hinted at their existence. The iPhone Fold is said to come with a crease-free display developed by Samsung, an advancement the Korean tech giant has been able to make fairly recently. This crease-free folding display will not only be featured in Apple’s devices but also in the next Galaxy Z Fold smartphones.
Of course, these will be expensive devices. The iPhone Fold is expected to start at around $2,200 to $2,300 and go up to $2,800 for the high storage model. As for the large screen foldable, it is expected to be an 18.8-inch MacBook-iPad hybrid that runs macOS with a touch interface. Not a lot is known about the specifications for this foldable but that’s understandable seeing as how it is about three years away.
