Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Air has long been expected to feature a strikingly slim design as a direct rival to the Galaxy S25 Edge (curr. $822.88 on Amazon). If a new leak from yeux1122 on the Naver Blog proves accurate, then Apple has gone to great lengths to ensure that its first Air-branded iPhone is as thin as possible.
To that end, a newly surfaced image allegedly compares the iPhone 17 Air's battery to that of the thicker iPhone 17 Pro, revealing a significant difference in thickness. Reportedly the battery inside the iPhone 17 Air is 2.49 mm thick, which would be less than half the thickness of the equivalent inside the iPhone 17 Pro.
The adoption of a thinner battery will compromise the Air's battery capacity, though. Based on recent rumours, the iPhone 17 Air may only offer a 2,800~3,000 mAh peak capacity. If that is the case, then the iPhone 17 Air would have the smallest battery capacity of any iPhone since the iPhone 13 mini.
Incidentally, Apple is expected to encase the batteries of both the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro. An alleged move to improve repairability and structural rigidity, the metal case will be covered by a film to maximise heat dissipation. Currently, Apple is anticipated to release the iPhone 17 Air with a 6.6-inch display as a quasi-replacement for the iPhone 16 Plus.
