One of Oppo's upcoming flagship smartphones is reportedly in development with notable changes to the display technology used in its predecessor. According to Digital Chat Station, the Find X9 Ultra will not follow the Find X8 Ultra by featuring a flat 2K display that helps distinguish it from other similar flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (curr. $999 on Amazon).
Instead, the leaker believes the Find X9 Ultra will drop to a 1.5K native resolution, which necessitates a new panel entirely. For reference, 1.5K is typically used by Android OEMs to describe 1220p or equivalent resolutions.
Regardless of terminology, the new display is expected to leverage Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LIPO) technology to further reduce bezel thickness compared to past displays. Incidentally, the Find X8 Ultra already has comparatively thin display bezels, as we covered during our review from this spring.
Moreover, Oppo is rumoured to pair this new LIPO display with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset that Qualcomm has codenamed SM8850. Oppo's Zhou Yibao indicates that Digital Chat Station's expectations regarding the Find X9 Ultra are inaccurate. Unfortunately, the executive has not elaborated further yet. Nonetheless, we would take Digital Chat Station's pronouncement above with a healthy amount of scepticism for the time being.
