Some late 2025 or early 2026 flagship smartphones are backed to have what might be some of the world's most cutting-edge mobile displays at the time of their launch. Others might adopt technology that is often perceived as old-fashioned by comparison, though, as their new and extra-large batteries might finally defeat the purposes of ultra-low-power OLED in the near future.

LTPO technology is associated with the mobile device display industry's most advanced features, such as the ability to allow a smartphone to modulate its refresh rate from its maximum value (e.g. 120Hz) to its absolute minimum on the fly to conserve battery, whereas LTPS is not (hence the rumored rush to upgrade 2025's iPhones to the most LTPO possible this time around).

The demand for such power-efficiency that has prevailed over the last few years just might be done from late 2025 onwards, though, as next-gen flagship Android smartphone batteries are thought to hit new highs of 7,000mAh in capacity, if not 7,500mAh in some top-end models.

That might be why 1 of the 3 upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2-powered devices the prodigious leaker Digital Chat Station claims to have most recently examined reportedly bucks the LTPO trend and goes for LTPS instead.

The goal is improved user eye protection in the mystery handset in question, although it will apparently pair the backlight type with a class-leading 2K resolution. It might be joined by more new flagships that make the same choice in the near future.

As for the other 2, 1 is allegedly set to use a 1.5K panel while the other might get a "slight" last-minute upgrade to 2K instead.

Both smartphones remain unnamed at the time of writing, although the former does line up with earlier rumors concerning the OnePlus 15, while the latter is not projected to launch until 2026 - which invites speculation that it could be the Vivo X300 Ultra or Oppo Find X9 Ultra, if not the Xiaomi 16 Ultra.
