It's been a long-standing speculation that Apple will soon release a folding iPhone, though that rumored release always seems to be just around the corner. However, new market research from JPMorgan claims that next year, Apple will finally release a foldable iPhone.
In a note to investors, market researchers claimed that a foldable iPhone (or iFold, as some have come to call the device) will launch alongside the iPhone 18 in September 2026. The bank further claimed that the foldable will cost $1999 at launch.
The researchers also speculate the folding iPhone could sell around 45 million units over the two years after its expected launch. Considering current sales across the entire foldables market hit roughly 18 million units last year, Apple could strike gold if JPMorgan's predictions comes true.
The rumor mill is churning with supposed spec leaks of the folding iPhone, although most point to an inner screen measuring about 7.5 inches diagonally and an outer screen measuring about 5.5 inches diagonally. It will likely have the same SoC as the iPhone 18 (likely powered by an A20 chip, based on Apple's current naming scheme) alongside staples like Face ID (or Touch ID, per some rumors) and a version of iOS modified for a folding phone.
Of course, this is all simply a prediction at this point, so take it with a grain of salt. It is likely that Apple will eventually release a folding phone due to the segment's growing popularity, but only the Cupertino Colossus truly knows when that may be.
