Smartphone battery capacities are gradually getting bigger and credit goes to Chinese manufacturers like OnePlus, Honor, and even Ulefone. Honor is now looking to take its phone battery game to the next level and even beat out some tablets, if the latest leak is accurate. The company is said to be working on a smartphone with a massive battery but it won’t be a flagship, which could be a good thing.
According to prolific leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Honor is in the NPI (National Provider Identifier) verification stage of a new smartphone that boasts a 10,000 mAh battery. While no more battery related details were shared by the leaker, it is likely that Honor will use a Silicon-Carbon setup for whatever phone this turns out to be.
Furthermore, it is evident that this phone will not be a flagship since it will be powered by the unannounced Dimensity 8500 SoC, according to the leaker. The flagship SoC, the Dimensity 9500, is expected in late September or October and is said to rival the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. The Dimensity 8500, on the other hand, is expected to power "sub-flagship" devices like the upcoming Redmi Turbo 5 or the Poco X8 Pro (global). This suggests the massive battery capacity will be available in a more budget-friendly phone.
This won’t be the first smartphone with such a massive battery as Ulefone has several heavy-duty rugged phones that go up to 25,000 mAh. Of course, the Honor offering will not be as bulky as the ones from Ulefone but it would be interesting to see how slim the company can make this battery behemoth. Honor has already shown it can fit a massive battery (6,100 mAh) in a foldable that is only 4.1 mm thick when opened.
As is the case with leaks and rumors, do take this information with a grain of salt. Honor has not shared any information on a smartphone with a 10,000 mAh battery.
