Huawei has shown off an interesting new foldable smartphone. At first glance, the Huawei Pura X looks like a Galaxy Z Flip-type of device, but its form factor is intriguing with a 16:10 aspect ratio. As always, Huawei refuses to divulge which SoC powers the Pura X, but it is likely a Kirin 9010 variant.
The Huawei Pura X comes with a 6.3-inch internal screen (2,120 × 1,320 pixels) with a refresh rate of 1-120 Hz, 300 Hz touch sampling rate and 1440 Hz PWM frequency. Its inner screen has the same specs but with a 3.5-inch panel (980 × 980). Above it, there are three camera sensors, a rarity on devices with this form factor.
Its primary sensor is a 50 MP lens with OIS, accompanied by a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and an 8 MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom and 30x digital. At the front, the Huawei Pura X comes with a 10.7 MP sensor. Exactly why it exists in unclear because you won't need it much. The primary camera array can double up as a selfie shooter thanks to the second screen.
Huawei offers the Pura X in two memory/storage configurations: 12 GB RAM and 256/512GB storage. The Huawei Pura X Collection edition increases it to 16 GB and 512 GB/1 TB, respectively. A 4,720 mAh battery powers the foldable, which can be charged at 66 Watts over a cable and 40 Watts wirelessly.
Lastly, the device is rated for IPX8 water and dust resistance. Other Huawei Pura X include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2, satellite communication (only on the Collection Edition), NFC and a USB 3.1 Type-C port. Its entry-level variant costs RMB 7,499 ($1,038), while the Collection Edition starts at RMB 8,999 ($1,245).
