The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is about to get a successor soon. At least, that's what the latest report from Yogesh Brar is suggesting. The tipster claims that the first batch of sub-flagship smartphones featuring the new Snapdragon 8s Elite will launch in April, which isn't far from now.
Yogesh hints that a good number of manufacturers will introduce affordable flagship phones with the new SoC. As for when Qualcomm may officially unveil the Snapdragon 8s Elite, in a previous report, the tipster shared that the SoC's launch would happen in March, possibly near the month's end.
Regarding the SoC itself, leaks from early this year suggested that the Snapdragon 8s Elite will feature three performance, four efficiency, and one high-performance core. The first three, which are said to be Cortex-A720 cores, will reportedly be clocked at 3.01 GHz.
As for the efficiency cores, two of them will reportedly be Cortex-A720 cores with a 2.80 GHz clock speed. It's unclear what cores the other two efficiency cores will be, but they are said to be clocked at 2.02 GHz. Finally, the high-performance core is said to be the Cortex-X4, which is rumored to feature a 3.21 GHz clock speed.
That is, if this configuration report holds true, the Snapdragon 8s Elite will be missing out on the Oryon cores that its non-S version enjoys. So, this new affordable smartphone SoC may not offer much of a performance bump over the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (2024 Motorola razr+ curr. $699.99 on Amazon).
To be specific, recent reports are suggesting that the performance will fall between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3. If that's the case, there will be quite a gap between the Snapdragon 8s Elite and 8 Elite.
