There may not be a Honor Magic V4, new leak claims

Word on the grapevine claims Honor will not launch a Magic V4 foldable this year. The company launched the Magic V3 last year and is apparently set to skip the V4 branding entirely in favor of a Magic V5.

Honor's Magic V lineup of foldable phones is one of the few officially available globally. The company launched the Magic V3 in July last year as a direct rival to devices like the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and while fans of the series would expect a Magic V4 to debut this year, that may not be the case.

According to a new leak from China, Honor is unlikely to launch a Magic V4 this year. Unlike devices like the OnePlus Open 2 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 that were postponed or canceled, however, the company is still expected to bring a new Magic foldable to the market this year—it apparently will just be branded as the Magic V5 and not the Magic V4.

The reason for that is simple: the number "4" is considered inauspicious in China. It wouldn't be the first time a Chinese OEM has avoided the number in its branding either, with OnePlus going directly from the OnePlus 3 to the OnePlus 5, and OPPO skipping the Find X4 series entirely.

Either way, Honor's next-gen foldable can be expected to debut in the coming months, with leaker Digital Chat Station previously claiming it would be the last Snapdragon 8 Elite big foldable to launch this year from a Chinese OEM. Xiaomi's Mix Flip 2 is scheduled to debut in Q3 but that phone is a clamshell-style model.
