Android smartphone OEMs such as Xiaomi and OnePlus are now predicted to start an unprecedentedly accelerated September stampede to launch new flagships in 2025.
Honor might wait until October to unleash its successors to the current Magic7 line, though, according to the typically successful leaker Digital Chat Station. Should that be the case, the series might be worth the wait, as it will contain a feature rarely seen on the top tier of the Android smartphone market these days.
The vanilla Magic8 is now linked to an OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, just like its forebear - however, it is also rumored to be just 6.59 inches in diagonal length, as opposed to 6.78 inches in the Magic7.
That might make the next-gen vanilla flagship smaller than its forebear - although it might still be bigger than the ~6.3-inch dimensions of the rumored oncoming wave of compact flagships, the "Magic7 Mini" included.
The leak is also interesting as it suggests that smaller high-tech OLED displays are finally about to get more economical and feasible for smartphone OEMs to order, as opposed to the supply trends that have driven the proliferation of larger ~6.8-inch panels over the last few years.
Accordingly, flagship handsets might now start to get smaller - or more reasonably-sized, at least - rather than bigger and bigger in the near future. They could also have incredibly minimal screen borders, like those of the Magic8 at an alleged width of just 1 millimeter or less.
The semi-compact Magic8 might be joined by other on-trend devices such as a Magic8 Slim in the course of their 2025-6 product cycle.
