Honor is tipped to launch a rival to devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 in mid-2025. It is now tipped to do so with a processor that would be a substantial upgrade to that of its predecessor the Magic V Flip - however, that would still not be enough to overtake the upcoming Motorola Razr + 2025.

Honor unleashed its inaugural clamshell foldable smartphone in June 2024, and is now tipped to follow up with its successor at around the same time in 2025.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was the world's top-end Qualcomm silicon option for Android devices like the Magic V Flip at the time of its launch - however, the compact horizontally-folding handset debuted with the older 8+ Gen 1 instead.

The "V Flip 2" might make up for that compromise - albeit to a certain extent. A new leak suggests that it will be equipped with the same 8 Gen 3 silicon, while its full-sized flagship Magic V4 counterpart progresses to the same Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC as the new, top-end Oppo Find N5.

One might argue that the slightly older 8 Gen 3 might work well enough for a smartphone of the Magic V Flip 2's size; however, its immediate rival the Motorola Razr+ 2025 is tipped to support the 8 Elite upgrade, as is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7, not to mention the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2.

Therefore, it now looks like the second-gen Honor clamshell might focus on style over specs again. On that note, one of the OEM's foldable smartphones will have a decent periscope zoom lens in 2025 - now, it seems more likely to be the Magic V4 rather than the V Flip 2.
