OnePlus may or may not have given up on the idea of global-edition foldable smartphones, as they apparently weren't lucrative enough; however, its single foray into the space is still more or less in the loop in terms of new features for its version of the brand's Android skin.
OxygenOS 15.0.0.821 for the OnePlus Open has a bumper change-log, and that is partially because it contains a number of features that bring it up to par with other premium devices such as the OnePlus 13 or Oppo Find X8 Ultra.
They include the option to password-protect recently deleted documents, memos or images, not to mention the ability to search and manage files on a user's Mac on the device's dual 120Hz Fluid AMOLED displays.
Most importantly, the new update enables Circle to Search on the OnePlus Open. Like many other devices with the in-demand feature, it is activated by holding the Home, navigation or recent apps buttons and then drawing a circle around a specific item on the screen.
OxygenOS 15.0.0.821 is also rated to upgrade the Open's UI and system performance, and also updates its security patch level (albeit to May 2025, whereas it is now June).
It is available for units of the smartphone bought in India or Europe at the time of writing, and has only just started to reach those in the latter region. There is no word on whether those sold in North America will join them any time soon.
Nevertheless, the new update might keep the Open more usable in the foreseeable future. That might be a good thing, as it could of course end up being the only foldable smartphone in the world with OnePlus branding, not to mention one of the last premium devices with an Alert Slider rather than its OEM's new <strike>Action Button clone</strike> Plus Key.
