Vivo executive Han Bo Xiao continues to tease new details about the company's next foldable ahead of its upcoming release. While the company has not revealed a precise launch date yet, the volume of recent teasers suggests that the X Fold5 will officially arrive before the end of the month. To that end, Han Bo Xiao rounded off last week by outlining that the device will feature industry-leading dust and water resistance for a foldable.
Specifically, the executive announced on Weibo that the X Fold5 would be the first foldable to offer IP5X and IPX9+ resistance against dust and water ingress. It is worth noting that IP5X means that the X Fold5 is protected against dust but not completely resistant to it. Now, he has shared a new video in which Vivo claims the X Fold5 will remain operable at -30°C, compared to -20°C for the X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro.
Moreover, Han Bo Xiao has shared a full photo of the X Fold5's foldable display for the first time. As far as we can tell, the X Fold5 has a slightly larger foldable panel than its 8.03-inch predecessor. However, Vivo may have achieved this by reducing bezel thickness between generations rather than embarking upon a complete redesign.
Han Bo Xiao mentions that both panels can reach 4,500 nits too, which easily surpasses the peak brightnesses of rivals like the Oppo Find N5, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold (curr. $1,499 on Amazon). With that being said, 4,500 nits only matches the X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro. Conversely, the X Fold5 will gain an LTPO cover display, which its predecessors lacked.
