Vivo has stepped up its X Fold5 teaser campaign by turning its attention to the foldable's cameras. To recap, company executive Han Bo Xiao has previously confirmed that the X Fold5 will match the X Fold3 Pro with 4,500 nit internal and external displays. However, both displays will feature LTPO backplanes for true variable refresh rate control, unlike Vivo's earlier foldables.
The X Fold5 will deliver at least one major camera upgrade over Vivo's X Fold3 generation, too. For reference, the X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro share 50 MP ultra-wide-angle and 32 MP selfie cameras. The latter surpasses the former with superior primary and telephoto cameras, though. According to Han Bo Xiao, the X Fold5 features a better telephoto camera than the X Fold3 Pro, which is widely regarded as offering the best overall camera experience of any modern foldable, including the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition or the Pixel 9 Pro Fold (curr. $1,499 on Amazon).
To that end, the Vivo executive has published three camera samples taken with the X Fold5, which we have embedded below. Setting aside image quality for now, it seems that Vivo may have included a new primary camera as well. On the one hand, one 20x photo reveals that the X Fold5 has a periscope telephoto camera with an f/2.55 aperture compared to f/2.57 for the X Fold3 Pro.
On the other hand, another photo suggests that the X Fold5 contains an f/1.57 and 23 mm primary camera. By contrast, the X Fold3 Pro features an f/1.67 and 23 mm primary camera. This time, the X Fold's telephoto camera also provides a macro mode, unlike previous models. Vivo has not full elaborated on this mode's capabilities yet, though. Instead, it has merely published the 140 mm equivalent focal length image that we have embedded below. A launch date still escapes Han Bo Xiao's teasers at this stage, too.
