Even before Samsung officially unveils the Galaxy Z Fold 7, expected around mid-July, competitors are gearing up to launch their own alternative foldables, at least in China. Following Vivo’s confirmation of the Vivo X Fold 5’s release date, Honor made an announcement of its own on 18 June 2025. According to a teaser poster shared on Weibo, the successor to the Honor Magic V3 (available here on Amazon) is set to officially launch in China on 2 July 2025, with a global model possibly making an appearance in September at IFA 2025 in Berlin.
Whilst Honor has yet to disclose any official specifications and design details for the Magic V5, certifications and leaks have already pointed to at least one standout feature of this new Honor foldable: its battery performance. Reports suggest that the Chinese company is packing a 6,000 mAh battery into the device's slim body, a significant improvement over the 5,150 mAh cell in the Magic V3. The max charging speed may also get a boost to 80 watts.
It remains uncertain whether Honor can further slim down the chassis or equip the phone with better cameras. There is currently a lack of reliable information concerning the chipset used. Meanwhile, the Vivo X Fold 5 is sticking to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for another year rather than adopting the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, though tons of other improvements are on the way. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be introduced in mid-July as a more compelling offering than its predecessors from the past years. In particular, Samsung may catch up with its Chinese competitors in terms of device thickness.
