Vivo is expected to deliver its new foldable internationally this year, just like it did with the X Fold3 Pro. While the company has not confirmed specifics yet, it continues to tease the X Fold5 on Chinese social media. This time, Vivo has published a new promotional video in which it highlights some of the features that should distinguish it from peers like the Oppo Find N5, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (curr. $1,799 on Amazon).
On the one hand, Vivo has showcased what it calls Atomic Workbench. An alternative to what Oppo and OnePlus describe as Boundless View and Open Canvas, Atomic Workbench takes a leaf out of Apple's Stage Manager by displaying up to four background apps as cards next to a single foreground app. Seemingly, Atomic Workbench can morph into different layouts though, depending on whether you are viewing landscape or portrait content.
On the other hand, the same video confirms that the X Fold series will return without an alert slider. In a similar move to OnePlus, Vivo has transitioned to a configurable side button with almost a dozen options to choose from, as shown in the video below. Ultimately, the X Fold5 will be the first foldable to bring across this functionality, which has become increasingly common among flagship candybar smartphones after Apple introduced the Action Button with the iPhone 15 series. The X Fold5 will launch in China on June 25, a day after Xiaomi presents the Poco F7 globally.
