OnePlus has been working with Hasselblad for its cameras since the OnePlus 9 but it looks like the next flagship will be taking a different route. A recent leak hinted at new camera branding which suggests that OnePlus is ending its partnership with Hasselblad. The details are unclear but the OnePlus 15 may come with a new camera setup that uses an “independent” imaging system.
The leak comes from known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo. It shares some specifications of the SoC and the display, as well as hinting at a new imaging system, one that has possibly been developed in house. The information comes via machine translation of the original post so there may be some inaccuracies. That being said, Digital Chat Station mentions “the first time to carry the independent imaging brand,” which could be the new Lumo system.
Oppo introduced the new Lumo imaging system with the Find X8s and Find X8 Ultra phones. It is touted as the “most advanced mobile imaging system for portraits, built with precision-engineered optics and cutting-edge computational imaging.” Since Oppo and OnePlus share a lot of hardware, this could be what the leaker is referring to for the OnePlus 15.
The leaker also shared that this time around, OnePlus will not use a round camera island, but is said to feature a triple camera setup that includes a 50MP sensor and a periscope lens. Both the OnePlus 13 (buy on Amazon) and the OnePlus 13R (buy on Amazon) have round camera islands but the OnePlus 13T has a more rectangular island with rounded corners.
It should also be noted that the company has not shared any information so this might not end up being true. Regardless, OnePlus had announced a three-year partnership with Hasselblad back in March of 2021 and till November 2024, it launched five flagship phones (OnePlus 9 to OnePlus 13) featuring Hasselblad branding on the camera system.
