During the April Nintendo Direct, EA revealed its intentions to offer feature parity between the Switch 2 and other platforms. EA Sports FC or FIFA titles had throttled performance or lacked features on the previous handheld. However, it wasn't confirmed until now that EA Sports FC 26 would not have the same limitations as a Switch 2 game. A new trailer groups the latest Nintendo console with other current-gen platforms.
Switch 2 specs have allowed third-party ports to arrive on the system with fewer compromises. The console benefits from DLSS upscaling and additional memory capacity, among other enhancements. Titles with cutting-edge visuals, such as Cyberpunk 2077, are now options. When another EA Sports game, Madden NFL 26, debuts on August 14th, it will also offer the same capabilities as other consoles.
EA FC 26 as a Switch 2 game may have more appeal due to the expected Steam Deck incompatibility. A kernel-level anti-cheat system has prevented prior entries in the series from running on Valve's system. That forced mobile gamers to resort to Windows-based handheld gaming PCs for a current-gen experience. The PlayStation Portal could play the PS5 game, but relied on at-home consoles for streaming.
With the 2026 edition, EA is also trying to accommodate more players with two distinct presets. Authentic Gameplay aims to address past criticism from football purists. It promises to deliver a more realistic representation of the sport in traditional offline modes. Meanwhile, the Competitive Gameplay preset could keep online multiplayer fast-paced while also showcasing refined mechanics.
The EA Sports FC 26 release date for the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC is set for September 26th. Buyers who pre-order the Ultimate Edition can enjoy an early access period beginning on September 19th.
