The last Need for Speed game, Need for Speed Unbound, was released back in 2022. So, fans of the series have been waiting for a new entry for more than 2 years. This wait is unlikely to be over anytime soon, as there are no indications that a new Need for Speed game will release in the short term.
In other words, if you are a NFS fan craving some fast-paced racing, you’ll have to play older Need for Speed games. Luckily, EA has made it super easy, as the publisher is now running a big sale on Need for Speed Heat on Steam. The Deluxe Edition of the game is now retailing for just $4.98 after a mammoth 93% discount.
Need for Speed Heat Deluxe Edition adds more cars and character costumes, as well as increased rewards to the base game.
Need for Speed Heat is one of the best in the series
Developed by Ghost Games and released in 2019, Need for Speed Heat was a return to form for the series after 2017’s lackluster Need for Speed Payback. The game improved upon almost everything wrong with NFS Payback, making it one of the best NFS games of recent memory.
Need for Speed Heat takes place in open-world Palm City, a location inspired by Miami. The game features distinct day and night game modes, which alter both the atmosphere and the races that you can participate in. Per IGN, while Need for Speed Heat looks good during the day, the nighttime looks better and is more fun to play courtesy of neon-drenched cityscapes, added traffic, and intense police chases.
While you can race both during the day and the night, the rewards these modes offer are distinct and impact progression differently. Racing during the day is legal and earns you cash, which you can use to buy new cars and upgrades for your cars. Switching to nighttime allows you to participate in illegal street races that earn you Reputation points. These Rep points can later be used to unlock more cars, etc.
Like every NFS, there are plenty of cars to buy/unlock and, thanks to the simpler upgrade process, customize. You can change everything from the visuals to the handling and performance of the vehicles by switching parts and decals/paint. So, gamers who like to enjoy deep customization will likely love the systems of Need for Speed Heat.
In short, Need for Speed Heat gets a lot right. GamesRadar places as the 3rd best NFS game ever made and rightfully so.
