EA Sports FC 26: Reveal trailer shows long-awaited new feature
Since parting ways with FIFA in 2022 and losing the license agreement, EA’s football simulation has been known as EA Sports FC. While a new installment is released every year, changes between versions are usually minor. This year, however, looks set to break that pattern. The official trailer for the latest title, EA Sports FC 26, dropped on July 16 and surprised fans.
The video focuses almost entirely on real gameplay footage – a refreshing change that’s earning praise in the comments. "95% real gameplay – finally!" one user writes, while others call it the best trailer in ten years. The highlight of the reveal is a new gameplay option allowing players to choose between a fast-paced Competitive Mode and a slower, more realistic Authentic Mode – a feature fans have long requested. Until now, the game leaned more toward speed than simulation, but going forward, fans of true-to-life football should finally get what they’ve been asking for.
EA is also promising refined gameplay mechanics beyond the new pace options. Duels are expected to feel more precise, rebounds more realistic and goalkeepers noticeably smarter. As shown in the trailer, movements and dribbling look smoother and more dynamic than as in FC 25.
Career mode remains a problem child
While the tone on YouTube is largely enthusiastic, reactions on Reddit are more reserved. Although the new speed toggle is also seen as a promising step there, many users view it as little more than a marketing move. Career mode – long criticized for its lack of meaningful updates – barely features in the trailer, which has caused frustration among longtime fans. Whether EA has made any real improvements in this area remains to be seen.
Release on September 26 – early access available for an extra fee
EA Sports FC 26 is set to launch on September 26, 2025, on all major platforms, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Players who purchase the Ultimate Edition, priced at around $100, can start playing early from September 19. The Standard Edition costs $69.99. Pre-orders are already available through EA’s official store.
