GPD has updated almost all its recent gaming handhelds to AMD's Strix Point family, albeit without bringing many new products to market during that time. For instance, the Win 4 and Win Max 2 feature AMD's Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU but with broadly the same design as previous generations. Arguably, the Win Mini 2025 (curr. $1,509.99 on Amazon) departs from its 2024 predecessor in more areas, like a wider case and improved cooling.
However, GPD has finally confirmed that it has new product in development that it is on the verge of officially showcasing. As recent rumours suggested, the device in question is GPD's first to leverage AMD's Strix Halo architecture. As the video below shows, GPD has turned to the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and its Radeon 8060S iGPU that is most commonly found in high-end mini-PCs.
Moreover, GPD has confirmed that it has integrated AMD's powerful Zen 5 and RDNA 3+ based APU within a successor to the Win 4 called the Win 5. For the time being, GPD is keeping the Win 5's design partly obscured. Nonetheless, a prior leak indicated that the Win 5 may drop the Win 4's built-in keyboard and sliding display while maintaining its PlayStation Portable styling. Although GPD has not fully revealed the Win 5's design yet, it has teased performance and thermals.
Specifically, the company shows the Win 5 running Black Myth: Wukong at around 169-210 FPS while consuming 55-61 W and sustaining 64~66 degrees. Based on our benchmarks, GPD has likely set to the game to 720p with low graphics and Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) enabled. With that being said, we do not know what settings GPD used to achieve these framerates nor how hard the system was pushing its fan to keep below 66 degrees. GPD will officially unveil the Win 5 during ChinaJoy 2025, which runs between August 1 and August 4 in Shanghai.
