GMKtec has now started selling its first mini-PC powered by AMD's Strix Halo freely on Amazon. For context, several companies have revealed intentions to release Strix Halo-powered desktops over the last few months. For example, the Framework Desktop debuted in February for $1,999. However, it will not begin shipping until Q3 2025.
By contrast, GMKtec has confirmed that the EVO-X2 should start reaching consumers on May 20. Not only that, but the mini-PC is still available for $1,399 with 64 GB RAM and 1 TB of storage after GMKtec opened pre-orders on its retail platform earlier this month. Alternatively, GMKtec is offering the device with twice as much memory for a $400 surcharge.
To recap, the EVO-X2 only comes with AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU, which packs 16 Zen 5 CPU cores and a Radeon RX 8060S iGPU that contains 40 Compute Units (CUs) leveraging the RDNA 3+ architecture. Based on our time with the latest ROG Flow Z13, the Radeon RX 8060S matches the performance of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU in synthetic and gaming benchmarks.
As a result, GMKtec has not included OCuLink connectivity for adding an external graphics card. Instead, the EVO-X2 contains four video outputs, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet and five USB Type-A ports. On top of that, the EVO-X2 features Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, as well as dual PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 slots and eight channel LPDDR5X-8000 RAM.
