Minisforum has only just released the MS-A2, having presented the mini-PC earlier this month during Japan IT Week Spring 2025 in Tokyo. To recap, the MS-A2 directly replaces the MS-A1 (curr. $239.99 on Amazon), which Minisforum released less than a year ago with an AMD Socket AM5 motherboard before refreshing it with the pre-installed Ryzen 9 9950X in December.
By contrast, the MS-A2 utilises high-end laptop APUs that cannot be swapped out further down the line. As we discussed at the time, the pick of the bunch is the Ryzen 9 9955HX, which features 16 CPU cores built around AMD's Zen 5 architecture, as well as the Radeon 610M iGPU. While the latter is relatively underpowered, the MS-A2 also contains a PCIe x16 slot with PCIe 4.0 x8 bandwidth for adding a desktop graphics card.
Alternatively, Minisforum is now selling the MS-A2 with the much cheaper Ryzen 9 7945HX. For reference, the older Dragon Range APU trails the Ryzen 9 9955HX by about 38% in our benchmarks. Still a powerful option, the Ryzen 9 7945HX variant currently starts at $639 in barebones form for a 23.8% saving on the equivalent Ryzen 9 9955HX SKU.
Meanwhile, Minisforum also sells a variant with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage for $799. At the time of writing, applying the coupon code MSA230 will take a further $30 off the MS-A2's already discounted launch pricing. Please see our original MS-A2 launch article and Minisforum's website for more details.
