Japanese video game developer and publisher FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Nightreign has clinched the title of June 2025’s best-selling video game in the United States. The sales data comes from analytics firm Circana, which provided a list of the top 20 best-selling video games in the U.S during June 2025.
Elden Ring’s multiplayer co-op spin-off was released on May 30, 2025, for the Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. The title outshone strong competition from Sony’s PS5 exclusive Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which clocks in at 2nd position, followed by Nintendo’s Switch 2 exclusive, Mario Kart World.
It’s likely that Elden Ring: Nightreign’s multiplatform release bolstered its sales numbers, as the game sold 3.5 million copies globally in its first five days, and 2 million on launch day, with 36% of sales in the U.S. alone.
The spin-off's meteoric rise to the top of the charts isn’t unexpected. The game builds on Elden Ring’s legacy, which has sold 30 million units since its release in 2022. Moreover, Nightreign’s co-op gameplay and new Nightlord bosses appealed to fans of the original release. In fact, 7.5% of Nightreign’s player base had already defeated all Nightlords within five days of launch.
The game peaked at 313,593 concurrent players on its first day, despite criticism for the initial lack of duo co-op. FromSoftware paid attention to community feedback and launched a string of quality-of-life updates, including auto-resurrect and buffed leveling curves, which improved Steam reviews to a respectable 78% positive ratio.
June’s top five best-selling games also featured Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Stellar Blade, Death Stranding 2, Mario Kart World, and Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, alongside Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077, owing to its Nintendo Switch 2 launch.
Despite fierce competition in the video game industry, FromSoftware still holds its own in an increasingly competitive market by delivering on what gamers are promised from its titles: punishing yet addictive games with stellar world-building in play.
