As FromSoftware’s co-op spinoff Elden Ring: Nightreign prepares to launch on May 30, players have taken to Reddit to express frustration over its multiplayer design. While the launch is still dozens of hours away, reviews for the game are out. Under the main review thread on Reddit, players have commented on their concerns about the multiplayer restrictions and lack of crossplay support.
A Redditor summed up the whole situation as “Minimum requirement: Have two friends. Oof, this is not going to go well.” Another user echoed the sentiment: “I have like 5 IRL friends who play ER. The problem is we're all in our 30s, none of us have the time to sync up our schedules to get together and play for an extended session. That's the real issue with multiplayer-'only' stuff like this.”
Another player added: “Same, I have a fair amount of time to game during the week but it’s at completely different times than all my buddies. We meet up once a week to play something but once a week is not enough to make me buy this.”
To add to that, many of the players pointed out that the missing two-player option was quite frustrating. “Having only 1 and 3 player modes and no 2 player mode is such an amazing oversight. No clue what they were thinking.” Another Reddit user said that the two-player option was a deal-breaker for them: “Played Elden Ring, wanted to play it with one person who was interested, now neither of us will buy Nightreign as we don’t have a third. Think that it being strictly one or three players without the option for duos is definitely a big downside.”
Elden Ring: Nightreign won’t have crossplay support at launch
Aside from the limitations on multiplayer mode, Elden Ring: Nightreign won’t support crossplay at launch, which has baffled quite a lot of players. “Not having crossplay at launch is such a head scratcher,” one user said.
“It pretty much immediately makes me lose interest in a game. I’m on Xbox and I have buddies on PC and PS5, so if I can’t play a mostly online game with them, I’m probably not going to buy it.” Similarly, another player mentioned it would’ve been an “easy buy” for them if it wasn’t for the lack of crossplay.
It should be noted that the crossplay functionality is set to be added with the next patch update. Further, it is also a possibility that duo mode, which would allow two players to experience the game together, may also be added.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is all set to roll out on May 30
Meanwhile, hardcore Elden Ring fans are excited about this spinoff, which will drop in just a few hours. Plus, some players don’t seem to be too concerned about teaming up with random players. “On one hand, I get it. You never know when you're going to get someone AFK or griefing. On the other hand, I really don't think it's that big of a deal to play with other players,” one comment read.
Another fan commented: “I'm lucky enough to have two friends who adore Elden Ring as much as I do, so will almost certainly be down to play this whenever we're all free at the same time. So it's a must-buy for me, regardless of the review scores it picks up.”
As reported previously, Elden Ring: Nightreign is all set to launch on May 30, with pre-loads now available on consoles. The game will be releasing on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, PS4, and Xbox One.
