FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki told IGN Japan the studio has no immediate plans to expand upon the Elden Ring IP. Instead, the company is working on several games, some of which are being directed by people besides Miyazaki.

Elden Ring, and its DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree racked up numerous accolades since they dropped in 2022 and 2024, respectively. Unfortunately, that's about all we'll see of the franchise, at least in the near future. IGN Japan reached out to FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki, and was told that the studio does not have immediate plans to expand the IP further.

In an earlier interview, Miyazaki confirmed Shadow of the Erdtree would be the only Elden Ring DLC. That makes sense because it was easily one of the most expansive DLCs launched in recent history, so much so that The Game Awards has even changed its rules to nominate Shadow of the Erdtree as game of the year.

Elden Ring's Souls-based predecessors (Demon's Souls doesn't really count) usually got multiple post-launch additions, but that trend seems to have slowed down after Bloodborne, which got only one and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which got none. With Shadow of the Erdtree out of the way, FromSoftware can allocate its resources to new projects, of which there seem to be many. In the words of Miyazaki himself:

There will be a wide variety of genres, so I hope you'll look forward to it.

It is far too early to assume what any of these will be. A Bloodborne sequel would be ideal, but the chances of that happening are slim. On the other hand, a new Sekiro or Sekiro-esque title seems likelier. Its combat is unlike anything FromSoftware has ever explored, and there's plenty of scope to develop that formula. We could get a new Armored Core game without a ten-year gap this time.
