A new WhatsApp option could soon let you log out of the platform without losing any data. Currently, WhatsApp does not allow you to log out on your primary device. It only allows you to delete your private data.
According to a recent find by Android Authority, this could soon change. A new option called "Logout," was spotted in an APK teardown of the latest WhatsApp beta release (2.25.17.37) in the app's account settings section.
When selected, it presents you with two choices, to either delete all your data and preferences or keep them. This could potentially mean that you can log out without having to unlink your primary phone and delete all of your data.
The "Erase all Data & preferences," will get rid of all your data but won't remove you from any groups you have joined. "Keep all Data & preferences," lets you keep all of your data while still retaining your primary phone account. The option is listed as "Logout [Internal]," which likely means it's being tested internally.
In other news, Meta has finally released a WhatsApp app for Apple's iPad. It took 15 years for the company to acknowledge Apple's tablet, but better late than never.
It offers all the usual features of the phone app, such as video and audio chats, automatic data sync across linked devices, and end-to-end encryption like its smartphone counterpart.
