The Leica SL3 was originally released back in March 2024 but was only available in black thus far. Now, a new "Reporter" variant follows and is supposed to be especially durable and reliable to meet the demands of professional users, according to Leica's official press release.
In order to do so, Leica utilizes a particularly scratch-resistant olive-green finish and a cover made of aramid, which improves durability but also makes the camera more grippy. With black buttons, a black instead of white Leica lettering and the omission of the red Leica logo, the Leica SL3 Reporter is intended to have a more modest appearance. The camera is made in Germany and has the same technical specifications as the regular Leica SL3.
Therefore, Leica still uses a 60MP full-frame sensor with 5-axis image stabilization. Combined with the Leica Maestro IV processor and an 8GB buffer, the camera can capture up to 5 frames per second with continuous autofocus or up to 15 frames per second without autofocus when using the electronic shutter. 8K video can be recorded at up to 30 frames per second, while 4K clips can be recorded at 60 frames per second. The electronic viewfinder has 5.76 million dots and a 120Hz refresh rate, while the 3.2-inch touchscreen has a resolution of 2.3 million dots.
Price and availability
The Leica SL3 Reporter is available now at Leica’s official online store and authorized retailers for $7,995. For comparison, the black Leica SL3 is priced at $7,485.
