The Leica SL3 was originally unveiled in March 2024, but there is still no sign of a possible Leica SL4. Instead, Leica is reportedly relaunching the SL3 as a "Reporter" variant. LeciaRumors has now published early images and extensive information about the features of the new full-frame camera. According to the report, Leica is making five main design changes.
First, the metal body will have an olive green finish instead of black. Second, the red Leica logo will be omitted for a more understated look. Third, the "Leica" lettering will now be engraved on the body; the white color will be omitted from this model. Fourth, all buttons will be black instead of some being silver. Lastly, Leica is replacing the synthetic leather covering of the regular Leica SL3 with a durable aramid covering.
These adjustments are expected to make the Leica SL3 Reporter approximately $500 more expensive in the US than the regular Leica SL3. For comparison, the Leica SL3 costs $7,485, so the new model is likely to cost around $8,000. The technology reportedly remains unchanged; Leica is expected to continue using a 60 MP full-frame sensor with five-axis image stabilization and the Leica L-mount.
The camera features both a mechanical and an electronic shutter. In addition to the 3.2-inch touchscreen with 2.3 million pixels and a 1.28-inch transflective LCD on the top, an electronic viewfinder with 5.76 million pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz is also on board. Further information about the Leica SL3 can be found on the manufacturer's website.
